On the one-year anniversary of release of the Walk With Me official music video, a First Nations school is sharing their own project inspired by the song.
"My name is Dave Carroll. I am a singer/songwriter and author from Halifax, and just finished some work in Northern Ontario with the school at Constance Lake First Nation. I was there to work with the students on creativity and the power of story."
"I came across Adrian's song Walk With Me from the music teacher there, and thought it would make a perfect track to edit some cell phone video of my time with the students. What we created is similar to the official music video in that it features images of students and teachers engaging in their school in an aspirational way."
"The main purpose of our video project will be to allow the kids to see themselves in a positive light..." -- Dave Carroll
A big shout-out to Dave Carroll and the staff and students at Constance Lake First Nation for making this beautiful video! 🧡 We are happy to share it, and it's now available on Adrian's YouTube Channel, and also right here:
THE OFFICIAL MUSIC VIDEO
Adrian received an email in 2022, right out of the blue, from a teacher in Beachburg, Ontario. Students at his school had learned about the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation, and wanted to do something to make a difference:
"I teach at an elementary school in Beachburg, Ontario. This year, my grades 6/7 and 7/8 classes are looking for a way to continue with ideas from the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation. We heard the song Walk With Me by Adrian Sutherland, and decided to reach out to you."
"Students are genuinely interested in finding ways to be part of the healing moving forward, and are trying to find practical ways to do this in their lives now. Our hopes are to create a video around the song Walk With Me, involving both younger and older grades, that represents our new learning about truth and reconciliation."
"This project will involve tracing of hands and feet to be used to create a mural of a heart, and posters with statements reflecting the 94 calls to action..." -- Steve Pritchard
Adrian loved the idea, and wanted to help make their student-driven project even bigger. His team coordinated with the school, sent in a videographer, and spent two days capturing footage of the students creating their project. It became Adrian's official music video for Walk With Me, receiving a national television broadcast premiere on ET Canada on Wednesday, September 28, 2022.
