Second JUNO Award Nomination for Adrian in Three Years

Adrian has once again been recognized on Canada’s biggest stage for music, receiving his second nomination for the JUNO Awards!

Adrian’s latest album, Precious Diamonds, has been nominated in the category of Contemporary Indigenous Artists or Group of the Year. The prestigious awards ceremony will take place in Vancouver on Saturday, March 29, and Sunday, March 30.

This marks Adrian’s second nomination in the same category, following his first JUNO nod in 2022 for his debut album, When The Magic Hits. Created during a period of deep isolation in his remote, fly-in community, Attawapiskat First Nation, Adrian built ‘SeaCan Studio’ out of a metal shipping container to record his music. Now, with Precious Diamonds, Sutherland continues to break barriers and share his culture with the world.

ABOUT THE JUNOS

The JUNO Awards, originally established in 1964 as the RPM Gold Leaf Awards, were rebranded in 1971 to honour Canada’s musical achievements. Organized by the Canadian Academy of Recording Arts and Sciences (CARAS), the awards have grown to become the nation’s premier music event, celebrating artists across a range of genres and disciplines.

ABOUT PRECIOUS DIAMONDS

Precious Diamonds is deeply personal, featuring two songs sung entirely in Omushkegowuk Cree, Notawe (Father) and Kiyash (Before), a testament to Sutherland’s commitment to preserving and celebrating his heritage. Leading up to the album’s release, four singles were unveiled, including Notawe (Father), the semi-autobiographical My Rebel Spirit, and title tracks Precious and Diamonds.

The album was produced by acclaimed musician and producer Colin Linden, and features an impressive lineup of musical talent, including Mickey Raphael on harmonica, Jim Hoke on saxophones, Jerry Roe on drums, John Dymond on bass, Janice Powers on organ, and Brandon Robert Young on harmonies. Linden himself contributes his mastery on acoustic, electric, dobro, 12-string, and resonator guitars. Additionally, Sutherland collaborated with songwriters Chris and Matt Gormley on tracks like Diamonds, Feeling of Love, Let It Shine, and Precious.

Sutherland’s second JUNO nomination marks yet another milestone in a remarkable career—one built on storytelling, perseverance, and a deep-rooted love for his culture. Bridging the distance from Attawapiskat to audiences everywhere, he is using music to amplify Indigenous voices and stories.
